TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) predicted a tropical system in the northwest Pacific will intensify into a tropical depression between Wednesday and Thursday (Oct. 15-16), potentially escalating to Typhoon Fengshen (風神) by Saturday (Oct. 18). The storm's peripheral circulation could significantly impact eastern Taiwan, bringing heavy rainfall.
The CWA has issued a warning of hot weather across Taiwan until Friday (Oct. 17), with temperatures reaching 35 to 36 degrees Celsius. Afternoon showers are expected in mountainous regions and Hualien-Taitung. The eastern wind pattern will bring scattered showers to the north coast, eastern areas, and Hengchun, with thunderstorms likely south of Chiayi and in mountainous areas on Wednesday (Oct. 15).
Localized showers will affect the north coast by Thursday (Oct. 16) and Friday, eastern regions, and Greater Taipei. Significant rainfall will hit the eastern half of Taiwan on Saturday (Oct. 18), with afternoon thunderstorms spreading to central and southern areas. The approaching northeast monsoon and the tropical system's outer circulation will bring noticeable rain to northern mountainous regions, Greater Taipei, Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Hengchun from Oct. 19 to Tuesday Oct. 21.
The northeast monsoon will cause temperatures to drop significantly in northern and Yilan regions on Sunday (Oct. 19), with highs around 29 to 30 degrees Celsius. Central and southern regions may also see temperatures fall below 30 degrees Celsius by Oct. 20. Residents should prepare for potential weather disruptions and stay updated on forecasts.
