TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologist Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇) from WeatherRisk Explore Inc. (天氣風險管理開發有限公司) reported Tuesday (Oct. 14) that tropical disturbance 96W poses low threat to Taiwan. The system will move westward toward the Philippines' Luzon Island, steered by a strong Pacific high. It will enter the South China Sea after approaching Luzon.
Wu predicted 96W will pass near Luzon Island between Friday (Oct. 17) and sunday (Oct. 19). He explained the disturbance's chance of taking a parabolic path toward Taiwan remains slim unless a deep westerly trough shifts eastward between Friday (Oct. 18) and Saturday (Oct. 19). Wu emphasized monitoring potential interaction with the northeast monsoon, which could affect Greater Taipei, northern mountainous areas, and eastern regions.
Wu advised vigilance from Saturday evening (Oct. 18) through Wednesday (Oct. 22), as this period presents the highest risk. He reassured 96W is unlikely to rapidly intensify but acknowledged variables remain, warranting continued observation. Residents should stay informed about developments in coming days. ◼
