TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tropical disturbance 95W north of Guam may develop into a tropical depression Wednesday (Oct. 8) and strengthen into Typhoon Nakri (娜克莉) by Thursday (Oct. 9). Meteorologist Chia Hsin-Hsing (賈新興) said the storm will follow a path similar to Typhoon Halong (哈隆). A weak northeastern monsoon will affect Taiwan on Oct. 9-10, bringing scattered showers from northern coasts to Yilan with afternoon mountain rain.

The northeastern monsoon will weaken Saturday (Oct. 11), leaving scattered afternoon showers from Taoyuan southward and in Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung regions. Chia advised residents to stay alert to changing weather conditions. Coastal areas from Hualien and Taitung to Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻) will experience scattered showers Oct. 14, with afternoon rain in southern mountainous areas and regions from Chiayi southward.

Coastal areas will continue experiencing scattered showers Oct. 15, with afternoon rain in southern mountains from Hsinchu and Miaoli southward, plus Changhua to Chiayi and eastern regions. Chia mentioned Typhoon Halong currently moves slowly northeast off Japan's southeast coast. This could create a Fujiwhara effect, where two storms interact, potentially complicating weather patterns. ◼
